Product Reviews:

 Rating 5   amazing book
Because of the great reviews I decided to purchase this book and was very glad I did. This book gave me the confidence to tackle projects that I normally would have paid someone to do.

I was always very nervous about sweating copper pipe together, but I followed the excellent step by step instructions and was amazed at how easy it was. The included DVD is also excellent as well showing very informative video of various projects.

I highly recommend this book for the beginner on up.

 Rating 4   Home Plumbing guide
Great help book for the do-it-yourselfer! Great details and illustrations on how to properly install home plumbing. Also gives you advice on things and building code requirements to watch out for.

 Rating 4   good
I haven't used this a whole lot. I liked all the books in the series, I just don't find any of them good enough to make me feel I could do the work myself.

Rating 3   New Gas Pipe Articles is Lame
I got this book after reading they had added a black pipe chapter to the book. The book discusses black pipe for something like a total of 4 pages in total. The book does come with a pdf version which is great for looking up things while I am on the computer. Overall a good book but again not super detailed. There are very few code explanations given especially for the gas pipe pages.

 Rating 4   B&D Plumbing, 4th Edition
This is an excellent book for the homeowner wanting to delve into plumbing repairs and upgrades. I'd give it 4.5 stars (if I could) because it does that very well. Saying that, it won't teach everything there is to know about plumbing- but it does not claim to do this. It has an incredible amount of very clear color photos and covers most topics that a homeowner will want to know about. It includes a free DVD which is brief but covers some basics. Reviews here faulted it for not covering PEX, but the 4th edition does, and for not saying you shouldn't use metal clamps on copper tubing, but it does mention that- although it is burried.
Why not 5 stars? There is a lot of info here but the layout is backwards IMO: the "basics", like how to sweat copper tubing (the book calls it pipe) is at the end of the book when this info should be at the beginning. I think they should've started with the basics and could have done a better job organizing them so the reader wouldn't miss something. There is probably not enough info here for the reader to design and layout an entire DWV system that would meet code for a new house, that's beyond the scope of the book, so if that's your goal you'll probably need an additional source(s).
