Product Reviews:

 Rating 5   Unbelievably useful book
This book is great. I have used SketchUp for three years, but bought this book to get a new perspective. Whether you are a new user of experienced, this book will help you. I hope the author will work on a separate book specifically for SketchUp Pro. Funny, easy to read, packed with useful tips.

Rating 1   Not Sketchup 7 - for older version (6)
This book is not for the current version of Sketcup. Sketchup is really great and this book is helpful but why not let people know it is for Sketchup 6?

 Rating 5   Aidan's a great teacher
I've bought several books from the "Dummies" series, and occasionally they leave a bit to be desired. This one really delivers.

In just one weekend, with the help of this book and author Aidan Chopra's excellent companion videos on YouTube, I went from complete Sketchup beginner to actually producing usable construction plans for a small shed.

Some teachers can take up a lot of your time without managing to get any practical information into your head. Aidan's got a knack for knowing and giving you what you need to know to get actually up and running with Google Sketchup.

Five stars!

Rating 5   A great introductory guide
I bought the book because I saw SketchUp mentioned several times in woodworking magazines. It seemed like a great way to generate detailed drawings of shop projects, and it is. However, there's almost no chance that anyone can just download the software and figure out how to get much out of it without some guidance. This book helps a new user get started without the aggravation that just muddling around would produce.

Like most other books in the "Dummies" series, this one is very easy to read and use. The information is presented in bite-sized chunks, and each new concept is built on what has preceded it. The tone is just right, I think; it's light without being condescending or cutsie, and it's authoritative without being pedantic.

I particularly liked the way the author explained how to fix errors. SketchUp is somewhat deceptive; it's pretty easy to get a sort-of-good result, but it's also easy to wander into dead ends. The book describes a mistake, then explains how to erase it and what to do to get the result you were looking for. Even better, it explains how to avoid the mistake in the first place. It sounds like an obvious thing for a good instructional book to do, but it's surprisingly rare.

Bottom line: I think I got what I paid for-- and more. I wanted a good, basic instructional book, and this is it. However, it's also a manual that explains how to get beyond the beginner's level as smoothly as possible. I recommend it very highly.

 Rating 5   Great Teacher
Google Shetchup 7 for Dummies by Aidan Chopra is a good choice for all Sketchup users. I have been using Sketchup for several years. I am an Industrial Arts teacher and have been using various CAD programs for over 20 years. Sketchup is one of my favorite programs, but there were always things I could not figure out from the help screens or you tube videos. Chopra to the rescue!

His writing is clear and concise, examples and illustrations are easy to follow. Every night I tackle another section, and I am finally feeling like I can use Sketchup to do what I want. I find myself coming home with an idea in my head, and I can draw it and see it in Sketchup faster than if I drew it with pencil and paper.
